RAYMOND BERTAZZO

“Ultimately it is all about Passion”

From working with Nonno in his shed and Franco (Pappa) teaching him his art of pattern making in the foundry, to a purpose driven state of the art fabrication facility has been a learning journey every step of the way.

Joining the Military at 15 years old as an Army Apprentice was the grounding he needed and Raymond developed a broad range of trade skills, coupled with a clear understanding of respect and teamwork. A year abroad working and living in Italy fuelled his passion for craftsmanship, design, form and function.

Returning home he met his wife Trudie, coming from a similar strong family base and a passion for her hairdressing trade the match was made. Encouraged by Trudie they founded Bertazzo Engineered in 1996. Raymond focused on fabrication and mechanical side, Trudie focused on finances and personnel.

Driven by the never ending lust for technology, innovation and the need to always challenge the norm, Raymond and his team today look towards a better future for our industries and our nation as we all learn to work together.

When not at work you will find him in their veggie garden, open water swimming, on his bicycle or enjoying time cooking for his family.

MATHEW IRONS

Raised in the local area from my teenage years, I found my purpose in steel as a young apprentice and have worked across a variety of roles in the industry ever since.

Over that time my work has centred on lean manufacturing, safety, quality and leadership. I have contributed to process improvement initiatives that reduced waste and improved the way the floor operates, and I place real value on a workplace where people are confident to raise concerns early.

Quality is equally important to me: what leaves the workshop should be work the team is willing to stand behind. My view of leadership in manufacturing is a practical one — remaining close to the work, developing people and supporting the team to resolve problems at the source.

Having returned to the region with a young family some years ago, drawn back by its ease of lifestyle and a family connection, I am proud to be part of the Bertazzo team, whose people bring my passion for Australian innovation and manufacturing to life in the high quality solutions they deliver for their business partners.

Outside of work, most of my interests run on either an engine or a ball. I follow motorsport of every kind and keep an eye on the soccer, and when I get the time I enjoy a round of golf or a ride on the bike. If there is a car show on close to home, chances are you will find me there.

Looking ahead, I am glad to play a part in the next chapter of Bertazzo’s growth, alongside the people who make it happen.
